Now available is the Viewer Access Satellite Television service otherwise known as VAST.  The VAST service will revolutionise the way many watch TV especially those living in poor reception areas and in remote regions where the only services to date have been ABC, SBS, Imparja and Seven Central.   The VAST service will provide the same number of channels that are currently available in metropolitan areas: programs from the Seven, Nine and Ten networks and the national broadcasters’ main channels, ABC1 and SBS ONE, along with digital channels ABC2, ABC3, ABCHD, SBS TWO, 7TWO, GO! and ONE HD. A new ABC 24 hour news channel is now running on this service as of August 2010. 

The decoder supplied is pre-activated with all of the ABC and SBS channels as well as the new ABC24 News channel for a period of 2-3 months after such time, registration of the smartcard will be necessary to avoid program interuption.  Registration will be via a single website for all channels.  According to the information provided to us by the Digital Ready Taskforce, those of you living in remote or regional areas that currently rely on the existing Aurora satellite service for TV reception and are within the TV1 Licence Area, should be approved for access to the commercial services in mid December 2010.  Get in early as there are limited numbers of decoders available at the moment as most of the stock is being allocated to the analog switch off areas in SA.
